In addition to our other exclusive tools like the protractor, ruler, calculator and dice tool, we have now added a compass tool to our choice of "Powertools" in Activstudio. This new Powertool allows a user to create circles, arcs or complex mathematical proofs with an onscreen, interactive compass.


Promethean Advantage
Promethean's PowerTools in Activstudio are actual tools that work just like their "originals" but better. For example, the ruler tool and protractor tool can rotate on the "0" original, show the degree of rotation right on the tool and be used with our annotation tools right on the page. Another example is the calculator tool that not only works like a real calculator, but shows the calculator and answer on screen. With one click of a button, the entire formula pastes right on the flipchart page. The new Compass tool is great for modeling of the use of a real compass. It behaves with all the features of a real compass ? hold end to move, move pencil to draw round, etc. Fantastic when used on maps with scales. Just adjust the compass to the width of the scale and the students can measure distances on maps, etc. In addition to drawing with a pen, the user can use the eraser or the highlighter to "draw" as well.

This exclusive new feature allows a teacher Drag/drop combinations of single or multiple pages from Windows folders or other flipcharts in order to create a new flipchart based on existing ones without having to even open the flipcharts up!


Promethean Advantage
Can be used to create lesson from templates therefore acting as a "Lesson Builder." Teachers can find the pages they want out of any flipchart already created (on their local hard drive or wherever they are connected on their network) to assemble exactly what they need in their lesson. Teachers will find that this will be a great timesaver and another way to "collaborate" with other teachers to build great lessons.

If a school has existing Smartboards and are ready to convert over to the Promethean Activclassroom, they will appreciate how easy it is for the teacher to just open Smart Notebook files with Activstudio! Once opened, teachers can add Activstudio functionaliity such as the use of page notes, action objects, question settings, and our powertools. Then just save and you now have an Activstudio flipchart!


Promethean Advantage
Teachers who were hesitant to "make the switch" because they had written lessons in "Notebook" won't have to lose the work they have done! And they can enhance their existing work with Activstudio (and even start incorporating whole group assessment using Activotes!)

As you know, Activstudio gives teachers the ability to write page notes for each and every individual flipchart page. Teachers can access this on the PC by clicking on the "N" icon on the top right of the page. Additionally, teachers can add icons on the pages that have page notes with the action to open up the notes. (this gives the users the ability to quickly see that there are page notes on that particular page. Page notes is extremely helpful as a reminder of "what to do" on each page, what standard is addressed, or a place to put hints/answers. The benefits to this features come when teachers are sharing their flipcharts with each other or asking a substitute teacher to use the flipchart. Without this, it is sometime difficult to know what the purpose of this page it! It is also great if students are using the Activboard and Activstudio flipchart as a "group station." the page notes give them the change to work independently while the teacher is working with other groups.


Now, with Activstudio 2.5, the teacher can print with page notes if needed.

This will allow a user to use ANY tools, grid, object, etc. on a ?live' desktop (including applications and websites) This is a general usability and functionality improvement - effectively making the desktop active when the marquee selector tool is active. (Windows 2000 and XP) other versions of windows will default to the existing ?desktop image' mode.


Promethean Advantage
Offers endless opportunities. Activstudio tools such as protractors and rulers can be used with other applications and CD ROMS while they are running. Imagine that you found a great website full of activities for the students to interact with... in the past if you were "annotating" on the website, you had to turn off annotating (click on the stop annotating icon) to go back to interacting with the website. Now you can do BOTH. You can annotate a website, then ask the students to "vote" on something that is shown on the page, then select Activstudio's "arrow tool" to choose the answer on the website that most students voted for. All of the annotations will be saved as a flipchart as well by choosing "save" at any time.

This provides the ability to place one or more FLASH (SWF) movie objects at defined positions/sizes on a flipchart page. (In the past FLASH activities appeared in a pop up window and could not be annotated over)


The movie will play at the defined position/size on the flipchart page. FLASH movies will stop playing once the page is turned. Returning to the page will reset movie objects back to their starting conditions.


When the mouse is over a playing movie, the mouse interaction behavior will be that of the movie and not of the flipchart.


Embedded FLASH movies/animations can have their object properties set, so they can be locked, their transparency changed, etc.


The AS/AP tools can be used over the FLASH ? e.g. annotate, ruler, etc.


The Promethean Advantage:
FLASH objects dragged to the library become AS2 files and can also be tagged with descriptions and keywords to make them searchable. This is a very powerful feature unmatched by the competition. Additionally, since the Activboard technology (electromagnetic surface and Activpen) supports rollovers (mouse over actions), our users can take advantage of these functionalities that cannot be done on resistive boards that can only click, but not take advantage of rollovers or right clicks. Our Activpen has built in left click, right click AND rollover functionality. Resistive boards do not.

Vector images do not lose quality when zoomed in. This feature provides better support for Windows Meta Files (WMF and EMF) vector formats. When adding a WMF (or EMF) image file into the flipchart, all the vector objects in the original file will now be converted to Activstudio shape objects and then automatically grouped together. Previously, all WMF files were converted to the AS2 raster image format.


The quality of the original image is maintained when the converted shape group is subsequently resized or zoomed within Activstudio.


Individual elements within the shape group can be filled with the fill tool.


The shape group can be ungrouped and the image may then be dissected by moving shape objects apart.
