It's no secret that many, if not most, of today's students live and thrive in a fast-paced technological world. That world is made up of video games, iPods, iTunes, DVD players, handheld PCs, and, of course, the world-wide web. Kids are creating their own websites, instant messaging their friends and living on their cell phones (that by the way, take digital pictures). What it takes now to hold a child's or teenager's attention in the classroom is totally different than only a few years ago. It's just so difficult to engage today's students and make them interested in traditionally presented lessons. When teachers can't capture and hold the attention of their students, learning suffers, behavioral problems increase, absenteeism increases and performance declines all around including on standardized tests. When it comes to the difficulty of engaging students, the bar that teachers must clear seems to rise higher and higher as each school year passes.
A Better Chance to Succeed
As you learn more about the Promethean Activclassroom and hopefully experience it for yourself, you will soon see how students become eager, active participants in their lessons. They are so involved and so captivated by the entire learning experience that gaining their attention is truly no longer an issue. The Activclassroom fits into the student's remote-controlled world and speaks their language. As you can see in our
introductory 4-minute video, the learning experience just becomes more fun and the system gives everyone, teachers and students alike, a better chance to succeed.
The Proof is in the Pudding
On the whole, students excel in the Activclassroom environment. That is being proven over and over again on a daily basis by thousands of teachers who literally have transformed their classrooms. To see for yourself, a good place to start is in our
Success Stories section where the unique experiences of five different school systems are featured. But please, don't stop there. If you ask your
local Sales Consultant, he or she can put you in touch with people at other school systems who will gladly share their Activclassroom experiences with you.
Typical Results
As an example to demonstrate the typical results that schools obtain in terms of achievement with their Activclassrooms, check out the excerpt below from the
success story at Thomaston-Upson Schools. . .
Results
The excitement created by this new technology has changed the climate of the schools - district-wide. "It has ignited our imaginations," said Dr. Howard Hendley, superintendent of Thomaston-Upson County Schools. "When we walk the halls, we see a noticeable difference in the activity level and energy in classrooms. Teachers are standing up, facilitating information. Students are moving back and forth from the interactive whiteboard to their desks, or interacting from their desks using the wireless peripherals. We hear more of a dialog between students and teachers, and see that students are more involved and motivated to learn."
What about test scores and other scorecards such as NCLB and SAT?
Dr. Hendley explains, "I do believe that our test scores are being raised but we don't have longitudinal data yet. Our test scores ARE soaring however. Why? We have made many positive changes in our instruction including this new technology that have contributed to this achievement. We have a quiet revolution in Upson County Schools.
Dr. Marguarite Jones (Principal at Upson Lee South Elementary School) added, "Students love the multimedia features and interactivity, which make learning more fun and exciting. Teachers report that students pay closer attention and have become more involved in class. Even parents are talking about the system because their children come home from school raving about it."
Recent test results show that the high school completion rate within the Thomaston-Upson School System has increased for the second year in a row while the dropout rate within the T-U System has decreased for the second year in a row.
SPECIAL NOTE: Dr. Jones also reports that (prior to supplying her teachers with the Promethean Activclassroom teaching systems) their school's Reading Proficiency percentiles were already high, but that was not the case with the Math Proficiency percentiles. She noted that in two years (with the Activclassrooms in place) their Math Proficiency percentiles have increased by 63%.
